Socitm has launched the pilot of a benchmarking module for the adoption of AI and automation by local authorities.

The Society of Innovation, Technology and Modernisation said the module has been developed to capture the investment being made in the technologies, and will examine the level of staffing and spending and the results being achieved.

It will also be used to compare governance processes and how participants are approaching risk mitigation.

So far 10 public sector bodies, mainly local authorities, are taking part in the pilot and places have been reserved for other London borough and Scottish councils that wish to be involved.

Analysis and report

Socitm said it expects to receive the responses by early June, when it will analyse them and make the results available in an anonymised Power BI report.

It is aiming to made the module available to all public sector organisation in early July.

“It is hoped that this pilot will be able to join Socitm’s other annual benchmarks and give organisations a guide on whether they need to adjust their approach to these technologies,” it said.
